Time Off

Posted in Life

The internet is a strange place. And so is the fashion industry. And when you combine them, things go from 0-100 strange to unbearable real quick. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love, love, love the fashion world, what with all it’s beautiful clothing, differing perspectives, and admirable aesthetic; however, I’ve always been slightly off-put by this industry as well. There are a lot of problems, like classism, cultural appropriation, racism, sexism, body shaming, etc., that really make it hard for me to just sit back and enjoy scrolling through blogs or photoshoots. I wanted to start in the world of fashion because of these problems. Sure, I wanted to sit back and post outfit photos, stalk other people’s #OOTDs, and frantically search for a dress I’ve been eyeing forever, but, more than that, I wanted to talk about how to fix the real problems of the industry. I got to do that a bit when I wrote for the great website Inkredibly, but now-a-days, I have no real outlet for that kind of speech. Recently, I withdrew in on myself and decided to take a break from this blog for a while. I felt that I had lost my vision of what I really wanted to write about, instead falling prey to routine and normalcy.

But, I’m back! And I’ve got a while new sense of my writing and the fashion world. I’m considering adding another section to the blog, but, for now, I’ve just drafted a few fashion thinkpieces (if you will). I’m glad that I had the opportunity to step back and really look at what’s important to me. And, of course, this blog is one of those things! No way I could leave it for too long! So I’m back to my normal Monday and Thursday post routine, and I’m excited to show you what I have in store.

Check back soon for more exciting things to come! xo

Patterned Pants

If you haven’t already gathered, I’m a huge fan of patterns. Patterned shirts? Check (aka my whole wardrobe). Patterned jackets? Duh. And patterned pants? You’re looking at them! I think patterned pants are such a fun way to make an outfit look very playful without making it look childish. Pick a good pattern in the right colors, pair it with neutrals and maybe a pop (it’s the shoes, if you couldn’t tell), and you’ve got yourself an outfit ready to go! I actually wore this one to work, and I got tons of compliments on my patterned pants. Whether you want a dressy outfit or a casual one, make patterned pants your go-to. You’ll never want to go back to solid bottoms. Trust me.

Adding Color to A Travel Wardrobe

Posted in Fashion, Life

{ source }

I think traveling is a time to stay very true to what you know in terms of clothing. Now, I’m not saying that you have to wear the same thing every day, but what I am saying is that traveling is not the time to try that body-con midi dress that’s been sitting in the back of your closet. I like to think of packing as a way to sift through all my clothes; it really helps me discover what my true style is. So when I see things on Pinterest or StumbleUpon about how to pack the “perfect” travel wardrobe, it’s terrifies me a bit. All the things featured are always black and white! Let me tell you something: I’m a color girl through-and-through. Sometimes those posts make me feel like I can’t wear all the colors and patterns I want when I travel the world, and it makes me #sad. So, I’ve decided to show you guys the ways that you can add color to your travel wardrobe. These are the tips I do when I know I’m traveling with basics but still want to keep my colorful flair. It’s super easy to add color to your travel wardrobe… especially if you follow these few tips!

1. Little Touches

 In my opinion, the best way to incorporate color into any travel outfit is small details. While I do love making color the focal point, using small pops of color makes it easier to create the outfit first and then add the brightness. Examples of the best places to make pop are lips (duh, bright lipstick is always an outfit do!), pieces of jewelry (pom-poms are really in right now), and even nails (bright nail polish does wonders to spruce up a black and white outfit). If you’re someone who prefers packing in all neutrals but wants to branch out into color, this is the option for you.Screen Shot 2016-06-28 at 10.55.09 AM

2. Choose Shoes

This is the age-old way of adding color to an outfit: shoes! If you pack a wardrobe of all blacks and whites, you’re going to start yearning for something new and interesting (I guarantee it). And what do you do when that happens? You look down… at your shoes, of course! Bright shoes not only contrast a neutral outfit in an amazing way, they also bring you tons of attention. Personally, shoes are the first thing I notice on a person, so brightly colored shoes really make me want to get to know someone. Carrie Bradshaw would approve (even if they’re not Manolos).

Remember how I said I love patterns? This is where those really come in handy. If you’ve packed a whole set of neutrals, colors are going to match. I. Promise. So why not get fun with it? A black camisole goes great with a bold pair of shorts. A pair of jeans go great with anything a neon top! There are so many amazing and bold combinations that you can really try if everything else is a neutral. Don’t take the bland wardrobe for granted… use it to complement those colors!

And that’s it! Three simple and super fun tips to add color into your travel wardrobe. Step 1 is for ultimate color beginners, step 2 is for moderate color lovers, and step three is for color aficionados! Try the one you’re comfortable with, plus maybe the one a step above that. Color is supposed to be fun, and so is traveling, so the two go together perfectly.

Virginia is finally seeing the sun and, with it, comes the bright days of summer like the one I got to frolic around in the other day! I really can’t express in words just how happy I am to be able to be out and about and not have to worry about it raining on me (update: I just checked the forecast and it’s supposed to rain next week. Great.) On a bright day like this, I like to get in my car, put the top down, and just drive. Oh, how I love summer and bright days in Virginia Beach.

Do you have sun overload where you live yet? Are you excited?

Interior Inspiration

If there’s one thing I love more than clothing and makeup, it’s interior design. The way that someone can lay out random furniture in a way that makes the room light up… that’s what I call interior inspiration. And when it comes to interior inspiration, I’ve noticed I have a bit of a type. You can check out some of my picks below and tell me if you agree. I guess it can’t be interior inspiration if it doesn’t make you fall in love with it, though… right? Keep reading to see some of my favorite interiors I’ve come across lately!

Best Foundation For Your Skin

Posted in Beauty, Makeup

{ source }

Buying foundation is one of my least favorite things to do. It’s the bane of my makeup existence. Even when you think you buy the right one, it never turns out right. Trying to find the best foundation for your skin is like picking a salad dressing: they all get the job done, but some are better for you than others. It took me years to realize that my makeup essentially slid off because my foundation wasn’t meant for oily skin. So, the first step to finding the best foundation for your skin is to determine your skin type. The second step? Define your budget. Are you splurging or saving? Good thing I’ve got recommendations for both! Check below the cut to see my top pics for save and splurge ideas for the best foundation for your skin.

Overall Love

Overalls: Torrid | Shirt: Forever 21 (Similar) | Heels: Primark (Last seen here)

Thanks to some willing friends armed with a camera, I’m ready to shower you all in outfit pictures. Here’s the first one, obviously! I just got these overalls, and I’ve been super nervous about wearing them. I always felt like overalls were made for the stick-thin girls of the world, so I didn’t think I’d get any real overall love from them. Fast forward to today, and… hello! Overall love! How did I live without overalls for so long?! They are seriously so comfortable and amazing. AND, since I got them in black, I can throw on virtually any shirt with them. Win-win-win. I’m in overall love.

Monday Motivation

Monday Motivation

Mondays are tough. You have to wake up, go to work, and you have a whole week ahead of you. That’s no fun. For me, it also means planning a brand new set of seven outfits, meals, and planning posts for the next week. Mondays are really not easy at all, and it’s hard to find Monday motivation. So, when I’m stressed over the day of the week, I turn to some quotes and pictures to help me get motivated. Here is some of my favorite Monday motivation.

Marble Mug DIY

Posted in DIY, Life

I love mugs. Like, I really, really love them. Sometimes when I’m out at stores, I find myself hoarding every mug I see in my cart, and I have to force myself to put at least half back before I check out. It’s that bad. I don’t even drink that much coffee or tea at home; it’s just my obsession for some reason. So when I stumbled across this DIY for marbled mugs on DIY Candy, I knew I had to try it immediately. It’s fun, colorful, and easy. And the best part? More mugs! So I did my own take on the marble mug DIY, and I think it turned out pretty well. Now it’s your turn to create something beautiful using this marble mug DIY. I bought all the materials at the dollar store, but some of these things you may already have!

#Trending: Headbands (+ a giveaway!)

Posted in #Trending, Fashion, Hair

When I was in the late stages of elementary school/the early stages of middle school, headbands were my go-to. I would wake up, roll out of bed, throw on a t-shirt, and pop on a headband. It was the ultimate 5 minute morning routine. Looking back at myself now though, I have to cringe. I thought I was so cool! Headbands were all the rage, and I thought I was top of the trend. I was trying to be season 1 Blair Waldorf, but, instead, I ended up being the furthest from that that one can possibly be. I had no idea of the ways to wear headbands.

So when I heard that headbands were on the up-and-up again, I lost it. I couldn’t believe it! My absolute worst fashion nightmare from my fetus days was coming back to haunt me. It was karma for something; it had to be. How many ways to wear headbands exist anyway?! Yet, being the trendbandwagon-er trendsetter that I am, I decided to do some research on the back again headband trend. Here are 4 do’s and don’ts of wearing headbands (+ a bonus one)!
